A Nissan GT-R R35 Gets a Starring Role in the Upcoming Film Elysium
Neil Blomkamp, the writer and director behind the hit film District 9 and the upcoming Elysium, clearly has an appreciation for great cars. In the first official trailer for Elysium there was footage of a flying Bugatti, and now, photos from shooting have shown us an armored up Nissan GT-R, that is apparently about 140 years old.
Set in a violent, post-apocalyptic, 2154 dystopia, Elysium looks to be one of the summer’s big blockbuster movies. The inclusion of a Nissan GT-R, then, is big news for the Godzilla. We’ve seen, time and time again, how featuring a vehicle in a movie can help drive that car’s sales and raise public awareness and improve perception. If it’s perception they’re looking to improve, too, the fact that this GT-R is not only still running 140 years from now, but is a fine vehicle for use in combat situations, should speak well to the car’s reliability.
The GT-R in the production still shown has been covered in armor of some sort, given a heavy tinting, and stripped of most of its color. Interestingly though, nobody has debadged it yet.
What do you think? Does the GT-R in Elysium look good? Do you think this is a good move for Nissan and the GT-R group? What are the odds that this 140 year old GT-R is on its original transmission still?
